On August 21st, 2008, Nevyn Nowhere of Sad Music for Happy Humans and Vortex brought the Human Canvas Project to the Fez Ballroom in
Portland, Oregon. The show, which took months to prepare, drew around 200 audience members, and consisted of around 30 musicians,
Canvas dancers and such. The idea was initially to combine friendly types of music that wouldn't usually be together, but could be, and
to have video fun to add something extra. Perhaps inspired by butoh, perhaps by modern dance, most likely by a smattering of things, the idea
of utilizing humans painted white as a canvas came about. A moving canvas simply seemed an even better idea. 3 rehearsals (with different folks
every time), a few drop outs, some bad directions, some new music, lots of wine, bread and cheese and dealing with all the details... the project
finally happened. Coming soon will be video clips, more photos, music (all free) from the event and a full DVD available for purchase. Click on the thumbnails to view the pictures. 6 pages of pre show and showtime by Mark Gamba up right now! |
